He has extensive experience not only in the field of bariatric and weight loss surgery but also in the fields of: general surgery, trauma surgery, vascular surgery and laparoscopic hernia surgery. He is a recognized national expert in the field of surgery having served as a consultant to different corporations that manufacture surgical instruments. He is a teacher of the art of surgery, having taught surgeons in the United States as well as internationally in Puerto Rico, Germany, Australia and Brazil. When performing his procedures, Dr. Dirk uses the new and highly publicized Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), where the operation is done through one small incision on the patients’ belly. This is a great option for those patients who want absolutely minimal scarring and shorter recovery time from surgery.
