History
The History of the district Rewari is contemporary to the history of Delhi. During MAHABHARTA period there was a king named Rewat He had a daughter whose name was Rewati. But the king used to call her Rewa lovingly. The king founded and established a city named “Rewa wadi” after the name of her daughter. Later on Rewa got married with Balram, elder brother of Lord Krishna and the king donated the city “Rewa wadi”as dow ry to her daughter. Later the city Rewa wadi became REWARI.
During the rule of Mughlas a “VANIK” named Hemu of Rewari became chief of Army and Prime minister of SOOR-SAMRAJYA. On decay of this SAMRAJYA he became ruler of Delhi and known by the name “HEM CHANDER VIKRMADITYA”. He could rule for very short period and sacrificed his life on Nov. 5, 1556 in the second battle of Panipat while fighting against Mughlas.
During the rule of Mughla Rewari was the part of Delhi territory. In the SAVTANTRTA-SANGRAM of 1857 “Rao Tula Ram & Krishan Gopal “ of Rewari fought aggressively against the British rule with the help of “Samrat Bahadur Shah Zafar” and there was a movement when they brought the British rule to an end in Rewari. But Rao Tula Ram could not succeed and he expired after some time. The land of Rewari is called “VEER-BHUMI”. Even today the people of Rewari feel proud to serve in Indian Armies.

Loco Shed : Half a century ago, it had 85 steam engines and a staff of 500. Today it has nine engines and a staff of 25. The Rewari Steam Loco Shed, situated on the Delhi-Jaipur railway line in Haryana, was the largest meter gauge shed in India. Started in 1893, the shed, 80 km from Delhi, closed 100 years later. In 2002, a broad gauge line was added to the site and it was declared a heritage shed. In 2010, a major revamp followed. Wandering pigs were removed, the barren field was landscaped and engines were painted.

About Jal Mahal
The Jal Mahal is a historic building that was built by Shah Quli Khan, who was an officer for Akbar. Jal Mahal was built in the year 1591 using a combination of both Indian and Persian styles of architecture, in the form of a large water tank, which is located in the centre of the mahal. The water tank that was completed in the year 1593. The water tank is now under the supervision of the Government of Haryana, who have repaired and refilled it. It is after the repairing of the water tank, that visitors have increased gradually.

The main building of the mahal is surrounded by four tall minarets that contain staircases leading to the top of the mahal. The interior of the mahal is largely decorated with golden colours on the ceiling as well as on the walls in the form of paintings, designs and geometric patterns. With time, the lower chambers of the Jal Mahal have disintegrated, which is why, there are no remains to be seen.

This was built in the memory of Sher Shah Suri’s grandfather, Ibrahim Suri, who used to be the ruler of Bengal. This tomb was created by Sheikh Ahmad Niyazi, who was the personal architect of Sher Shah Suri.

Rewari is a moderately vast city and traveling around Rewari is quite easy due to the different options available for commute. Tourists can opt for the regular public buses or auto rickshaws while traveling in Rewari. Cabs and call taxis are also available, and these can be a godsend for tourists looking for a luxurious mode of travel.
Bus
Buses and mini buses are the cheapest mode of commute available in Rewari but these have the largest network. Buses cover almost all major and minor parts of the city, and you can reach the destination of your choice through a bus with some basic knowledge on the city layout and on where you’re headed. Bus fares are very cheap, and they range around Rs 5.. Star buses, which are privately owned vehicles, are also available for almost the same fares. These buses have a wide reach and are a popular mode of transport.
Auto Rickshaw
Auto rickshaws are also a popular mode of transport and a particularly safe mode of travel you can opt for during night time. Autos in Rewari do not run on meter, and there are no special night fares. You should negotiate a specific rate before boarding an auto rickshaw.
