About EuroEyes ALZ Eye Laser Center Munich
Lasik and Intraocular lenses are the specialty of this group of eye laser centres located in Germany. A range of refractive vision correction procedures are performed at the clinics run by the group. The ophthalmological surgeons who treat patients are ranked among the best ophthalmologists in Germany. State of the art equipment and techniques are used for diagnosis and treatment of vision problems. Lens and implant surgery are also performed at the centres operated by the group.

Professor Thomas Neuhann, MD

Biography: Medical Director and founder, Professor Thomas Neuhann, MD, has been active in ophthalmic surgery for 25 years and has been using the Excimer laser technique almost as long. In 1999, Dr. Neuhann was honored as a "Pioneer of Refractive Surgery" in the United States. He is one of only a few internationally renowned German ophthalmic surgeons and was voted one of "TOP 50 Opinion Leader" for Outstanding Contribution and Leadership in the Fields of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in 2005. More... Professor Neuhann became internationally known for: * inventing the capsulorhexis technique, to open the anterior lens capsule during cataract surgery; * developing an automated technique for trabeculectomy, a surgical procedure that removes part of the trabeculum in the eye to relieve pressure caused by glaucoma; * integrating special diagnostic data (from Topolink, Aberrolink, and iris recognition software) into the LASIK procedure; and * developing special techniques to correct complex refractive errors, such as irregular astigmatism in patients with keratoconus. Professor Neuhann also founded and directs the Corneal Bank of Munich, which provides corneas for between 1,500 and 2,000 transplants yearly. Professor Neuhann performs approximately 300 of those corneal transplants per year. He belongs to a group ophthalmologic practice and is a member of the Eye Department at the Red Cross Clinic, in Munich.

Markus Bauer, MD

Biography: Dr. Markus Bauer has been a Senior Physician at the ALZ Eye Laser Center since 1997. He is primarily responsible for the care of patients who elect to have refractive surgery and performs most surgical procedures. Dr. Bauer is especially interested and experienced in treating more complex cases – patients with diagnoses of keratoconus or those who have undergone keratoplasty. Along with Professor Neuhann, Dr. Bauer is actively involved in the development and improvement of refractive surgical procedures. Dr. Bauer has published extensively. He also teaches courses to colleagues interested in refractive surgery. His research projects focus on - LASIK following keratoplasty - ICRS for treatment of keratoconus - Long-term results after phakic lens implantation

Barbara Lege, MD

Biography: Dr. Lege has been an ophthalmologist at the ALZ Eye Laser Center since 2002. She is the former Director of the Division of Refractive Surgery at the University of Würzburg’s eye clinic, where she served for over three years. As a research assistant in what clinic or hospital London in 1995, Dr. Lege studied problems of wound healing after excimer laser surgery. Since then, she has been interested in the research and clinical application of surgical vision correction procedures. Dr. Lege has been published nationally and internationally. Her main research interests are - Biometry before and after refractive surgery - Comparison of different LASIK procedures - LASIK following keratoplasty
