Biography: Dr. IM Aslanides, MD, PhD, F.R.C.Opth, MBA, founder and medical director of Emmetropia SA finished his residency in London in1992.From 1992 to 1996 he completed his PhD thesis at Weil- Cornell Medical College New York, USA on “Very high frequency Ultrasound in Refractive Surgery”Further to his refractive training IM Aslanides aquired a robust clinical training in other fields of Ophthalmology in USA.1995-1996 subspecialized in “Neuro-Ophthalmology” at the SUNY (State University New York)1996-1997 subspecilized in “Glaucoma” at the renowned Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University ,Philadelphia, USA.1997-1999 subspecialized in “Diseases of Retina and Macula” at the University of Toronto, Canada.1999-2000 Holder of Onassis Foundation Grant, subspecializes in “Refractive Surgery of Anterior Segment of the Eye” at the university of Newcastle, in Great Britain.2001-2004 Returns back to Greece as Medical Director of Refractive Surgery at the Vardinoyanio Eye Institute ,Medical College University of Crete.IM Aslanides has active participation in over 300 publications, abstracts, presentations, or book chapters at international level and he is fellow of The Royal college of Ophthalmologists.Has performed over 10000 refractive and other eye surgical cases and has trained a large number of refractive surgeons from all over the world.IM Aslanides is Clinical Assistant in Ophthalmology at Weil Cornell Medical College New York, USA , and acts as a scientific consultant in laser techonology industry and in imaging systems in Ophthalmology.

Professional Profile:Mr Mohammed Muhtaseb is a Specialist Ophthalmic Surgeon registered with the General Medical Council in the UK. He trained in ophthalmology in London and Cambridge, and his subspecialty interest is in anterior segment diseases. He was brought up and educated in the United Kingdom from the age of 4 years. During his medical training at the University of London he was a medal-winner, multiple prize-winner, recipient of Certificates of Merit and was awarded multiple Distinctions upon graduating.He completed his general ophthalmology training in London and Cambridge, then went on to do specialist training in Uveitis / Medical Ophthalmology and Cornea & Anterior Segment Surgery. Mr Muhtaseb has 25 publications and abstracts to his name, including work that has attracted the interest of the ophthalmic press and ophthalmologists from around the world. He has presented 15 research papers at national and international conferences, and had his work included in the Meeting Highlights CD Rom of the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2003.Mr Muhtaseb has reviewed scientific work for British journals, and is currently an invited reviewer for two international medical journals.Mr Muhtaseb has an interest in international ophthalmology and has worked in impoverished areas of Burma (Myanmar) and Palestine. Biography: Qualifications: MB BS (Lon), FRCOphth Dr Mearza is a specialist ophthalmologist and has full specialist registration with the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom. He qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1996 and undertook both his basic and higher Ophthalmic surgical training in London. After completing a Corneal Fellowship at Moorfields NHS Trust, he joined the Emmetropia Mediterranean Eye Institute in 2006. As well as modern small incision cataract surgery, his interests include lamellar corneal grafting techniques, refractive laser surgery, accommodative and phakic intra-ocular lenses, pterygium surgery, INTACS for keratoconus, anterior segment reconstruction and corneal inflammatory disease. He also has a strong interest in voluntary ophthalmic work, and has conducted several trips to needy areas in India, Bali and Myanmar. The latter was the result of links established while Dr Mearza was working at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney and the outback region of Broken Hill, Australia. He has published over 15 peer reviewed papers and has presented at numerous National and International meetings. His most recent research has focused on Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) and he has presented on this topic at major prestigious conferences in Europe and the United States. He is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
